The Chair of Intelligent Technical Design is concerned with the application of modern information and communication technology (ICT) during the design, the construction and the operation of civil infrastructure, such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, road and pipe networks. In this regard, we use methods of Building Information Modelling (BIM), Computer Vision and Machine Learning as well as Virtual and Augmented Reality to efficiently and sustainably inform decision makers.

Presentation at the conference "Fachkongress Digitale Transformation im Lebenszyklus der Verkehrsinfrastruktur"

From June 29 to 30, 2021, the conference "Fachkongress Digitale Transformation im Lebenszyklus der Verkehrsinfrastruktur" took place. Martin Schickert presented results from the cooperation between our chair and the MFPA life cycle material engineering.

From June 29 to 30, 2021, the conference "Fachkongress Digitale Transformation im Lebenszyklus der Verkehrsinfrastruktur" took place. Mr. Schickert from the MFPA life cycle material engineering, Mr. Artus, Mr. Lai and Mr. Kremp submitted their work with the title "Integration und Visualisierung von Zustandsdaten in digitalen Bauwerksmodellen - Konzepte und Realisierungen". Mr. Schickert presented the results.

Digital building models can represent the planning and condition data of infrastructure structures over the entire life cycle in the context of Building Information Modeling (BIM). During the operation phase, the integration of condition data from structural analysis enables a detailed, up-to-date description of the structure's condition. The paper discusses technical concepts for the integration of condition data into digital building models according to the open standard of Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) as well as their visualization in the model. By means of prototypical software, both geometric and semantic condition information from structural diagnosis with ultrasound and radar are integrated into a 3D model based on the IFC schema. Thereby, the necessary functionalities and the procedure from data acquisition to user interaction with the building model are clarified. From this, a conceptual system is developed to map data obtained by means of non-destructive testing (NDT) and the associated meta-information in an IFC data structure. Visualization software was developed for the 3D representation of the IFC building model with exemplary NDT data. Two examples of augmented reality (AR) visualization of 3D condition data with a tablet and AR glasses, respectively, show possible uses in the context of the real building component, which may facilitate inspection and maintenance tasks in the future.
