Corona in the module "Simulation Methods in Engineering"

Many institutes and countries promote projects regarding the corona pandemic. We want to empower the students in this field as well. Hence, the module Simulation Methods in Engineering will be focussing on corona this semester.

The corona pandemic has been a big topic since the end of last year. We all will have to deal with it now and with future pandemics. Currently, medics are working on therapy and medicine, biologist are analyzing the virus itself, economists are investigating in forecasts and many more.

How can engineers help in this situation? Engineers are able to provide simulations and virtual experiments. These experiments help on analyzing macroscopic circumstances, e.g. the spread of the virus or economic behaviors. Just as well, they can simulate microscopic processes, like infestation of single cells and impacts of medicine.

Students attending the module Simulation Methods in Engineering have to pass a project for examination. In the Summer Semester 2020 the project deals with the spread of the virus. The students can choose between different modeling concepts to create a simulation. Within a second phase, a defined area serves as a bases for detailed investigations. As always, our students and their ideas boost these projects and the results. We are looking forward to project results.
