A trip to the test modules of VertiKKA

On 30.09.2020, the Department of Building Physics had a field trip to Tiefurt to visit the test modules of the developed façade greening system VertiKKA.

In the afternoon, our team started the bicycle trip towards the water treatment plant in Tiefurt, northeast of Weimar, where the test modules of a living wall designated for local greywater treatment are erected. The planned investigations in the field of building physics as well as the field of urban water management were discussed. Ms. Melanie Börmel from the Department of Urban Bioengineering for Resource Recovery was present to introduce the system and to provide a background about greywater management. The visit involved comprehensive discussions among the staff and the student research assistants of the Department of Building Physics about the impact of the system on the hygrothermal performance of the façade.

After the trip, all of the staff members agreed that our tradition of summer excursions could be preserved even during the difficult time of the pandemic by choosing a suitable outdoor destination and an open mode of transportation.
