Information for Incoming Exchange Students

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers exchange students a diverse, international study environment with practical teaching and interdisciplinary projects.

Further information on everyday student life, course selection, and organization can be found in the FAQs below:

I want to study at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar!

We look forward to welcoming you! Here you will find all the information you need for your application and your studies at the Bauhaus -Universität Weimar, as well as for living in Germany and Weimar.

I have received a letter of admission. What do I need to do now?

Once you have successfully applied at your home university, you will be nominated for a semester abroad at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Once the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has confirmed your nomination to your home university, you can apply to study at the Bauhaus-Universität via our online portal for first-year students.

If you have any questions, please contact the coordinator for Erasmus student mobility at the International Office of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar at: incoming[at]uni-weimar.de

How do I find my courses for my degree program?

We publish the courses shortly before the start of the semester. At the beginning of each semester, course selection takes place at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This determines which modules students can attend. Registration for all modules takes place online via the Bison Portal.

How can I find information about the start of the semester?

For students completing an exchange semester at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, there is a separate welcome event with the International Counsellor.

Students will be invited to this event by email.

What is a learning agreement and what do I need to bear in mind?

The learning agreement is a contract between you, your home university, and the host faculty at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It specifies the scope of your studies in Weimar. You can obtain the relevant form from your home university.

Please use our course offerings in the electronic course catalog BISON to create your Learning Agreement. Since the course offerings at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the coming semester are always published a few weeks before the start of the semester and admission is only granted at the beginning of the semester, you can first create a preliminary learning agreement, which can then be modified.

The course archive from previous years is available here for initial orientation.

Please wait to create your learning agreement until you have received your Letter of Acceptance from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. We recommend that you create and sign the learning agreement “before mobility” by the end of September (for the winter semester) or by the end of March (for the summer semester). You can then fill out and update the agreement “during mobility” during the semester.

Dr. Anne Engelhardt will sign your learning agreement at the faculty.

Please do not send your learning agreement until after you have been admitted.

How do I fill out my learning agreement during mobility?

Any changes to the learning agreement due to modified or adjusted courses will be made within a period of up to four weeks after the start of the lecture period at the Bauhaus -Universität Weimar. This form must be signed again by you, your home university, and the International Counsellor.

What is the Transcript of Records?

Once all the exams you have taken have been entered in the BISON portal, you can generate your own digital Transcript of Records.

Please note: Grades can only be viewed in the Transcript of Records after the instructor has announced the results/grades. This can sometimes take until the end of September (summer semester) or the end of March (winter semester). If you need your grades sooner, please inform the respective instructor(s).

Can I extend my stay?

Exchange students may be able to extend their study stay in Weimar by one semester. You can find more information here.
