Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Koch

The Chair of Intelligent Technical Design is concerned with the application of modern information and communication technology (ICT) during the design, the construction and the operation of civil infrastructure, such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, road and pipe networks. In this regard, we use methods of Building Information Modelling (BIM), Computer Vision and Machine Learning as well as Virtual and Augmented Reality to efficiently and sustainably inform decision makers.

"Intelligent Technical Design refers to a design approach that utilizes advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, to optimize the design process and improve the performance, efficiency, and sustainability of building and infrastructure systems. It integrates data-driven insights, real-time performance monitoring, and machine learning algorithms into the design process to make informed decisions, automate manual processes, and reduce the risk of human error. The goal of Intelligent Technical Design is to create high-performing, sustainable, and efficient building and infrastructure systems." [ChatGPT, 2023]

Christmas Colloquium at Ettersburg Castle

This year's chair colloquium with presentations by all chair members and a guest took place in the conference rooms of Ettersburg Castle.

At a pre-Christmas colloquium, all staff and external doctoral students as well as a guest presented current key topics of their activities in 10-15 minute presentations.

Prof. Christian Koch kicked off the event with a review of the Chair's previous focus and profile in terms of research and teaching, as well as an outlook on future topics and the sharpening of its profile in line with the mission statement of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Eike Tauscher, alumnus of Bauhaus-Universität and now senior project manager at planen-bauen 4.0, a company for the digitalisation of planning, construction and operation, presented the company's current projects, plans and development topics and drew parallels with current research topics.

This was followed by research presentations by all academic staff and external doctoral students as well as presentations focussing on administrative tasks by Ulrike Engelbert (office) and on technical and IT topics by Jens-Uwe Wagner (technician). After each presentation, participants had time for questions, feedback and discussions.

In addition to the many presentations and feedback sessions, there was also room for Christmas cheer, joint reflection and team building.

The ITD team wishes everyone a Merry Christmas!

Our team includes Prof. Koch, Mrs. Engelbert, Mr. Wagner, and several research and student assistants.
