The GEO5+ Workshop took place at OTH Regensburg from 16 to 17 July this year. These events give doctoral researchers in geotechnical engineering the chance to present and discuss their latest research findings. Participating institutions included TU Berlin, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, TU Dresden, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, HTWK Leipzig, OTH Regensburg and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

The Chair of Geotechnical Engineering at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was represented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Patrick Staubach, Justus Käpplinger, Niklas Rödiger, Lisa Tschirschky and Paul Haberl.
The chair contributed two presentations to the workshop programme. Paul Haberl presented his research entitled 'Assessing the Serviceability of Railway Embankments Using Numerical Simulations'. Niklas Rödiger gave a presentation entitled 'Numerical Investigations into the Installation of Monopile Foundations by Vibratory Driving'. Both presentations provided insights into the chair's current numerical research and opened up the respective approaches to expert discussion.

The two-day programme comprised a total of 15 presentations covering a broad range of geotechnical topics. These included ground improvement methods, cyclic soil loading, bentonite sealing systems, CPT measurements and offshore foundations. The scientific programme was complemented by visits to OTH Regensburg’s BuildingLab and laboratory facilities, as well as a joint evening event on the River Danube.
