Project description
Stucco - once a demonstration of splendour, power and wealth, deeply rooted in the history of architecture and representation. But what does stucco say today? Who and what is represented - and who remains invisible? What significance can stucco have in the present day? Is ‘new’ stucco even worth striving for, or is there critical potential in the reconstruction of past forms?
We have been exploring these questions throughout the semester. Our exhibition invites you to take a closer look at the stories behind stucco and to search for the perspectives that have been missing until now.
The exhibited works, which were created over the course of the semester, present possible answers. They combine historical craftsmanship with modern technologies such as 3D printing and give stucco a new, queer, anticapitalist and socio-critical meaning. The works take a critical look at tradition, question its political dimensions and create new, queer perspectives on a medium that enables both transformation and creative appropriation.
‘Stucco Radicale’ is an invitation to radically question, reinterpret and expand traditions - for a queer vision of stucco in the 21st century.
