Project description

As part of the Chair of Typography and Type Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the “204 Type-Gazette” is published annually, showcasing the typefaces created by students in the previous semester. The Gazette functions as an archive of the typography courses and provides a platform for networking between students and professionals in the field. It is distributed to type designers, type design studios across Europe, and partner universities, fostering exchange and enhancing the visibility of the university.
The 2025 edition of the Type-Gazette is dedicated to the theme of „irretrievable loss“ and takes inspiration from the theatrical text “Und dann” by Wolfram Höll. The publication explores the culture of remembrance and forgetting, examining their significance in relation to identity, culture, and political power.
A special emphasis will be placed on the work of female designers like Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, whose unique approach connects type, technology, and society in an innovative way. Through this, the Gazette aims to foster a broader, more inclusive understanding of design.
The publication was printed in an edition of 150 copies by Lucia Verlag Weimar, with production taking place in the printing workshop of the Faculty of Art and Design.
