Project description

During the course of their studies, design students create an immense output, which is being presented, exhibited, submitted to competitions and included into their portfolios. It often happens that designs develop the potential of tradable objects even then and students seek for possibilities to earn a living with them. Therefore, it is necessary to provide platforms which introduce the products to customers giving information on the conceptual and material background as well. The concept of pop-up stores has proven its quality as a platform to present unusual ideas for some years now. The interdisciplinary team of the project "Don't Pop – Communicate" did research on former implementations of pop-up on order to create their very own approach to the topic. The goal was to design a pop-up shop concept that would allow students of Bauhaus-Universität to sell their original products – e.g. books, magazines, tableware, textiles, illustration, furniture – to the real public in town. The concept should fulfill the condition to be (socially) sustainable, reusable and still fun at the same time – so quite a challenge to work on in a big group. The result can be seen and experienced (!) during Winterwerkschau at our pop-up space at Marktstraße 16 in Weimar. Drop by!
