Project description
In this project the participants will deal with typography as image and text simultaneously. The material of the class will be poetry and prose, we will talk about ways of narrating, écriture féminine, linguistic determinism, and all kinds of literacy. Authors such as Hélène Cixous, Ursula K. LeGuin and Hanna Regel will be read, we will look at the works of Lawrence Weiner and Jenny Holzer, and we will also have guests who work with language and text as a central element of their visual practice.
The goal is to design experimental typography that carries the narrative of a piece of text (chosen or self written). This can be a variable lettering, a modification of an existing typeface or handwritten letters.
