Project description
"The conception of the genius is absurd. I have never met someone who exclusively invents by himself, with no interferences. With such representations, there is always something wrong. Therefore it's more honest to say, that I am solely imaginable in a system of cooperation, a system of giving and taking." (Twin Gabriel)
"Copyright is a very outdated idea of a contract" (Adam Broomberg / working partner Oliver Chanarin)
We are used to the photographer designing his/her view of his/her counterpart. The current discourse asks about the possibilities of equal reciprocity and cooperation in photography (the "empathic portrait"/theme complex of the 8th Phototriennale Hamburg 2022). We want to develop exercises that divide the copyright of a portrait photo between the two parties. The students will choose their cooperation partners. This can be done in small groups or alone. The point is to enter into a cooperative exchange with a (foreign or friendly) group or person from whom one would like to learn or experience something. Photography offers the opportunity to question, rethink and shift one's own point of view. This can be the result of a mutual mirroring, which in this case can be done with the help of photography.
