Project description

With reference to analog photography, the genre term "portrait" refers primarily to the photographic image of a living counterpart in close physical proximity. With the help of the mirror reflection of the apparatus, the portrait is designed, captured, recorded as a result of the subjective perception of the photographer in relation to his counterpart. While the early self-portrait (painting, analog photography) served to discover the self and the person as an individuality, today the selfie is used as a communicative practice that generates the sum of likes, especially on virtual portals such as Facebook, exposing the self to direct evaluation on the part of the virtual community. Digital image communication combines the personal portrait with text, hyperlinks, geodata and online profiles.
With the new possibilities of face recognition, it is already possible to pay with one's face at the cash register in China. With the advance of digitalization, the photographic portrait has undergone a media transformation, as has the way we communicate with each other, or rather, the way we use image communication for various purposes.

The project module "Portrait in Transition" was about working on our own conception and realization of image ideas in discourse. In the end, we wanted to create a photo newspaper together.
