Semester project »Night and Fog«
von Ken Polster, Maria Seidel, Lukas Beck, Martin Schuchardt, Elisa Müller, Hannah Meyer, Sofia Florian, Eric Jentzsch, Claudia Herrmann, Jacqueline Gregorius, Matthias Baumbach, Jonas Malzahn, Lars Nüthen, Robin Schlolaut

superviced by:
Torsten Müller (Professur Massivbau II, Fakultät Bauingenieurwesen), Gaby Kosa (Visuelle Kommunikation Fakultät Gestaltung), Alexander Schwinghammer (wissenschaftliche Lehrgebiete der Fakultät Gestaltung), Jörg von Stuckrad (Druckwerkstatt der Fakultät Gestaltung)

In the project »Nacht und Nebel« (Night and Fog) architects, designers and engineers created an eponymous exhibition architecture that typified the topic and at the same time offered new spatial experience for the visitor.

The method by which the students created the fascinating atmosphere, was simple and yet refined. Black side and rear walls framed a construction of metal supports, of which 25 layers of white Geovlieses were suspended vertically. Giving an impression of nocturnal gliding fog. The fabric panels, when hung arched a little and swung constantly and gently back and forth due to air movement – like real fog.

Over a narrow tunnel made of fabric panels a maelstrom of deep action arose, which automatically led the visitors from the bustle of the fair towards this »Lichtung der Ruhe« (Space of Serenity). This was the actual presentation area in which the students exhibited their artistic and creative products and objects on self-made furniture. Including prints, an extensive series of postcards and a 64-page booklet with illustrations and texts that are created in a workshop with the renowned illustrator Nadia Budde.
