25.4.: Artist Talk with Nika Oblak & Primož Novak

On the occasion of the exhibition »And Now For Something Completely Different 13« by Nika Oblak and Primož Novak, the course »Kunstwelt« der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in cooperation with the Jenaer Kunstverein and the Häselburg Gera invites you to an Artist Talk with the artist duo. Nika Oblak and Primož Novak will give exclusive insights into their work. All interested persons are cordially invited to join in the subsequent discussion, which will be moderated by Michaela Mai and Florian Schmidt. The Artist Talk will take place in English on Monday, 25 April 2022, 6 pm.

In their photographs, installations and performative and kinetic video works, Nika Oblak & Primož Novak deal with sociological, political and philosophical questions in a way that is as humorous as it is profound. Starting from an examination of the art and media system, they investigate social norms and routines as well as their conditions and structures, revealing contradictions and absurdities. Through their experimental and playful approach to the (representational) possibilities of new media and technologies, they create works that blur the dividing lines between simulation and reality, the digital and the physical.

Since graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and the University of the Arts in Berlin, Nika Oblak (*1975) and Primož Novak (*1973) have realised numerous international exhibition projects. Their work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions, for example at MC Gallery, New York; Catalyst Arts, Belfast; Galerie im Körnerpark, Berlin; Galerija Kibela, Maribor/Sl; as well as at Sharjah Biennale, United Arab Emirates; Japan Media Arts Festival, Tokyo; Istanbul Biennale, Turkey; Biennale Cuvee, Linz; Transmediale, Berlin; Anniversary Exhibition Kinetica, London. They have received numerous grants and awards, including the CYNETART Award from the Trans-Media Academy Hellerau in Dresden, the White Aphroid Award for Artistic Achievement from MMC KIBLA, Maribor, and the Rihard Jakopic Honorary Mention, the highest national award for visual arts given by the Federation of Slovenian Societies of Visual Artists, the Academy of Visual Arts and Design in Ljubljana, the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana and the Slovenian Association of Art Critics. Her works are in numerous public and private collections, including Beirut, Hong Kong, Seoul and Stockholm.
