On 21 July 2024, the German-language version of the Gesamtkunstwerk »Das graue Tuch« will premiere at the Zeiss Planetarium Jena. The immersive 360-degree fulldome show, created under the direction of Hon. Prof. Micky Remann with students from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, promises a spectacular performance with live theatre and orchestra.
The guests of the performance »Das graue Tuch« (The grey cloth) are taken around the world in a luxurious airship and accompany the glass architect Edgar Krug and his organ-playing wife Clara on their honeymoon. Despite the unassuming title, the audience can expect a colourful musical theatre that has been staged as a total work of art.
Based on Paul Scheerbart's 1914 novel »Das Graue Tuch und zehn Prozent Weiß« (The Grey Cloth and Ten Percent White), the play is set in an imagined future that comes close to our present. It tells of the sometimes bizarre adventures of the protagonists and was produced by the Jena Fulldome Festival Foundation in collaboration with teams from Jena, Berlin, Wiesbaden, Heggelbach, Hamburg and Los Angeles.
The premiere not only marks the completion of a student project, but also the end of Micky Remann's work as part of the Media Art and Design degree programme at the Faculty of Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Since 2004, he has regularly offered teaching formats at the university as a lecturer and has held the Honorary Professorship »Immersive Media« since 2014. In the future, the »Immersive Media« teaching area will be filled by a new Digital Professorship »Digital Spaces and Immersive Media«.
