In the winter semester of 2022/23, students of the Faculty of Art and Design dealt with the biographies of former citizens of Apolda who were victims of social, religious and political persecution before, during and after the Nazi era. The results are installations, objects, short films, paintings, radio productions and participatory artistic works, which are now on display in the exhibition »Na, weil ich gesucht habe wie ein Blöder! Künstlerische Arbeiten zu vergessenen Geschichten aus Apolda« (Well, because I searched like a fool! Artistic Works on Forgotten Stories from Apolda) at the Kulturfabrik Apolda.
As part of the Fachkurs »LandKulturBildung. Jüdisches Leben im Prager Haus Apolda« (Jewish life in the Prager House Apolda), the future art educators and artists are dealing with the Prager House in Apolda as a place of learning, encounter and remembrance. The former business house of the Jewish Prager family in the centre of Apolda was rescued from its final dilapidation at the last minute by the Prager-Haus Apolda e.V. association and has since been maintained on a voluntary basis as a place of remembrance and encounter.
Based on intensive research into local stories of persecution, the students developed artistic works that commemorate those who could be Apolda neighbours, colleagues and friends today. The works focus on making Jewish life visible outside the Shoah. The students are also concerned to offer a broad target group access to this difficult topic through everyday points of contact.
The project results can be seen in an exhibition in the spacious rooms of the Kulturfabrik Apolda from Sunday, 12 February 2023. In addition, an extensive programme will be offered that invites visitors to exchange ideas and work together with the students: visitors will have the opportunity to participate in small events and interactive stations and thus become part of the exhibition.
