»no one belongs here more than you« – nova space opens second episode of the year-long »POWER HOUSE« exhibition

Under the title »no one belongs here more than you«, the university gallery of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar presents the second part of its exhibition series on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first Bauhaus exhibition in Weimar’s Schiller Museum. Starting Thursday, 25 May 2023, works exploring themes of belonging, identification and security within the context of living will be available for viewing.

With whom do we share our personal space? Do we share it voluntarily, or are we forced to? Where do we want to live, and how can people identify with new living spaces if they have no freedom to choose them, for example due to forced flight or displacement? Designers and artists from various disciplines explore these and other questions in the second episode of the »POWER HOUSE« exhibition.

Works by students from the Architecture, Media Architecture, Product Design and Fine Arts Master’s degree programmes will be on display. Also participating are Visual Communication alumni and teachers of Fine Arts, from the secondary school fine arts education programme and from the field of typography as well as external artists.

Some of the artistic positions investigate the (re)designing of living spaces and pursue the connection between architecture and the human body and its need for localisation and belonging. Other works examine the border between private and public spaces and the question of who is actually allowed to reside where. Other works detach themselves from spatial context completely, instead focusing on situations of social coexistence in which people are able to find a sense of safety.

The exhibition in the Schiller Museum premises of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar is not static, but rather in a constant state of change. Conceptually conceived as an organic structure, the second episode will expand into other rooms of the building and even sprawl beyond. The exhibition’s appearance will continue to change greatly over episodes to come; it may expand and grow further, or it may even shrink and taper.

In the 100th anniversary year of the first-ever Bauhaus exhibition, nova space – the university gallery of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar – will inhabit the exhibition rooms of the Schiller Museum in Weimar until the end of 2023. The Klassik Stiftung Weimar is dedicating its 2023 annual programme to the theme of living, focusing centrally on the Weimar State Bauhaus. The Stiftung casts its gaze towards the future of housing and coexistence, invites visitors to engage with sustainable building, discusses topics such as displacement and gentrification and relates these to historical forms of housing.
