Poster for the graduate exhibition »Move On«
Published: 11 July 2023

»MOVE ON« – Final projects from product design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Under the title »Move On«, the graduates of the product design degree programme of the Faculty of Art and Design present their Bachelor's and Master's theses in an online exhibition. At summaery2023, the annual exhibition of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the works can also be viewed on site in Weimar from 13 to 16 July 2023.

With the completion of the final project, a drastic change follows for the product design students: the departure from the studio, from the university, from the beloved study city of Weimar. From here they move on, possibly to a Master's programme at another university, to a design job or to self-employment. »Move On« – the title of the online exhibition and presentation as part of »summaery2023« takes this inevitable progression into account.

When packing the moving boxes, the graduates have a moment to reflect and sum up. What has accumulated in my boxes? What am I taking with me? What will remain? »In the »Move On« exhibition, we show our final projects, topics that are important to us today for the future,« describes Marvin Fonfara, the organiser of this year's graduate exhibition. »It is not uncommon for our final projects to be far from finished. We want to move forward in the future through them and with our learned creative eye.«

In addition to the expertise gained in specific topics, the final projects also present an overview of skills, know-how and experience that the students have gained over the entire period of study. The exhibition features works that deal with, for example, inclusive design, mobility concepts, sustainable fashion as well as the reparability of products or public lighting concepts for more safety and less light pollution. The physical exhibition plays with the image of the moving box and borrows from the motif in its design and presentation. The box as a symbol for the transfer of knowledge from the university into the world and the future becomes the exhibition architecture. Thus, the works are staged on pedestals made of moving boxes.
