Digitisation in schools is advancing in leaps and bounds. Special digital learning and teaching aids are to be used in the further training of sports, music and art teachers as well as the associated subject lessons. As part of the nationwide competence network »lernen:digital« (learning:digital), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is funding the sub-project »Digitisation-related and digitally-supported professionalisation of sports, music and art teachers« (DigiProSMK) with around 7 million euros. At Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Andrea Dreyer, Professorship of Art and its Didactics, is participating in the project with regard to art teaching.
The aim of the project is to advance a sustainable and nationwide structure for the professionalisation of sports, music and art teachers in the context of digitalisation, Christian Albrechts University of Kiel (CAU), which is coordinating the project with a total of ten universities, reports in a media release.
»In a sub-project, we would like to research approaches and develop, realise and evaluate modules at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar that accompany media-supported teaching at schools in the subject of art,« explains project leader Prof. Andrea Dreyer. »We will develop offers that will enable art teachers to act as multipliers to sensitise and train teachers of other subjects in the didactic, technical and, above all, creative use of audiovisual media in the classroom,« explains Dreyer about the content of the project.
Digital media can contribute to creating and implementing good teaching by opening up new ways of learning and teaching, explains Katharina Scheiter, scientific director of the lernen:digital transfer office. Teachers play a central role in good teaching because they decide which media have a particular potential for a specific subject-related learning goal and how the combination of analogue and digital tools results in harmonious teaching. A total of four competence centres in the areas of STEM, language/society/economics, school development and sport/music/art - which also includes the »DigiProSMK« project - began their work in a time-shifted manner in the period from April to August 2023.
In order to make the results of the research work at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar available for school practice (transfer), the sub-project cooperates within the framework of the »DigiProSMK« network with the Thüringer Institut für Lehrerfortbildung, Lehrplanentwicklung und Medien (Thuringian Institute for Teacher Training, Curriculum Development and Media), one of the seven participating state institutes for teacher training or training centres in the partner states. The resulting teaching and learning materials are to be made available digitally across the federal states.
»DigiProSMK« is part of the nationwide competence network »lernen:digital« (learning:digital), for which Federal Minister of Education Bettina Stark-Watzinger gave the go-ahead in April 2023. The federal government is investing a total of 205 million euros in research and development of high-quality continuing education programmes.
