23.10. Prof. Eva Kubinyi: »écrire pour le public« (»writing for the public«) – orientation and guidance systems in public space

In an increasingly globalised world and ever-growing metropolises, it is becoming more and more important to be able to rapidly find your way around unfamiliar places. Whether an airport, railway station, administrative building, or hospital, good orientation in the form of a well-organised guidance system is absolutely essential these days. In her lecture, Prof. Eva Kubinyi explains how signage is becoming the link between architecture and users. She refers to a number of her own projects to illustrate the interdisciplinary project approach at the interface between building planning, communication design and technology.
How is orientation created in complex buildings? What are the challenges for the orientation system designer? And can orientation design be made poetic?

About Eva Kubinyi:
Prof. Dipl. Des. Eva Kubinyi is a partner in the Atelier Intégral Ruedi Baur Paris and involved in the conception and realisation of signage projects around the world.  She has lectured at numerous art and design colleges, including in Amiens and Paris (France), at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Switzerland), and at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In 2015, she was appointed professor for typography at the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences. As a freelance designer, she is also involved in cultural projects and holds workshops and lectures at international conferences and festivals.
