Important information for students

Information on the start of the semester

Dear students, dear new students,

In contrast to the previous semester, many courses will be held in the winter semester 2020/21 in presence or partial presence with an alternation between online and on-site learning. Above all, we want to give first-semester students the opportunity to study on campus, work and get to know the university. In doing so, we will continue to carefully consider the current developments regarding the Corona pandemic.

» First semester students can find detailed information about the start of their studies here.

Behavior during the pandemic

The faculty has invested a lot of time and effort to ensure that the semester can begin under hygienic conditions. This includes concepts for room use, social distancing and contact tracing. Students are explicitly expected to make every effort to comply with hygiene and health regulations on campus and outside the university, including avoiding social gatherings in poorly ventilated rooms. Only together can we ensure the health and safety of our entire campus community!

Pandemic regulations in university buildings and on campus

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will reopen its buildings for in-person teaching and research events in the upcoming 2020/2021 winter semester. In order for studying, research and work to be safely and efficiently carried out, we want to provide the best possible protection against infection on campus and in university buildings. This includes that everyone must wear a mask covering the nose and mouth when moving between rooms. It is up to each and every one of us to work together to make sure this happens. Be sure to carefully read and follow the regulations.

Further sources of information

Please continue to regularly inform yourself about current risks and measures via the central Corona site of the University: www.uni-weimar.de/coronavirus

You will also find tips and advice in our web dossier: www.uni-weimar.de/wintersemester2020

Student work spaces

Student workspaces and studios are coordinated by the teachers. First semester students and graduate students will be given first priority.
Due to the pandemic, we unfortunately have fewer student workspaces to offer throughout the Faculty of Art and Design.
Only student workspaces for which an approved hygiene concept has been approved can be used. When allocating places, the teachers provide information about hygiene rules, and students will be expected to sign an accountability agreement for the compliance of these rules.

Workshops and labs

The staff in the workshops and labs work closely with the teachers in charge of the degree programmes. At present, priority will be given to first semester students and to graduating students working on their final theses. Introduction courses for first-semester students are also organised together with the teachers and take place in small groups. The dates for these courses will be announced in the individual study programmes.

If you have specific questions or would like to make an appointment to use the workshops, please contact the respective workshop masters. For the decentralised workshops and laboratories of the professorships of Media Art and Design, please contact the respective teaching associates (by telephone, e-mail or moodle). Appointments made in advance must be kept and will be automatically cancelled in case of no-show.

Opening times of the buildings

The buildings of the Faculty of Art and Design will be open to students from Monday, 19.10.2020. Access to the Van de Velde building and the rooms in Marienstr. 1a and 1b is possible from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. via designated entrances and exits. For teaching and project rooms, access will be granted via Thoska after your admission to the respective courses or during admission by a teacher. The workshops are open at the usual times; it is essential to make an appointment before working on site. Please note that the opening hours of the individual areas may still be adjusted due to safety measures during the pandemic.

The winter semester starts up in three weeks and things on campus at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are still pretty relaxed. The changes that are being made to prepare for a winter semester under pandemic conditions are, on the surface, nearly invisible. However, these changes will be noticeable when students return to Weimar and courses begin on 2 November.

The 2020/21 winter semester is beginning in a few weeks. And it will again be a unique semester. But unlike the primarily digital summer semester, we will be returning to classroom teaching and in-person interaction on campus at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

There will be as much attendance as possible
under the current Covid19 regulations. The health of all university members remains our first priority. This means we are constantly coming up with personalized, creative solutions so that in-person events can take place and that you feel safe and comfortable during your studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar this autumn and onwards. Keep yourself up to date with the latest information and find links to the important university webpages here.
