Gisela Bullacher works in the medium of photography; her artistic focus is on the examination of the object and its perception. Based on the fact that the photograph of an object follows a different intention than the object itself and that our relationship to it changes through our view of it, photography is presented as a pictorial as well as sculptural means of expression.
Gisela Bullacher studied Fine Art at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts; this was followed by exhibitions at home and abroad as well as awards and prizes. In 1990 she was an ars viva award winner of the Kulturkreis im BDI, in 1996 she received the working scholarship of the Kunstfonds Bonn and in 1999 the Edwin Scharff Prize of the City of Hamburg. From 1998 to 2001 she received a research grant from the Hochschulsonderprogramm III (HSP III) on the subject of "Depth of Field and the Weave of Spatial References". Since 2004 she has been teaching in the field of photography, formerly at the University of Duisburg-Essen, since 2007 at the Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen.
