Project description

Industrial ruins in a city are beautiful in their own way. The peculiar state, they find themselves in attracts a variety of people. On the example of Ph. Swiderski's Maschienenbau Fabrik this state of ruin is compared with a film set. Both spaces are extremely flexible and can be bent into various configurations, depending on the narrative chosen. But as soon as a ruin gets an agenda or a programme the macabre beauty is lost, thus making this state-in-between elusive and fragile. The work is dedicated to this state in-between.

Taking time to analyse the working process is crucial to understanding this work. Only taken as a whole, its worth can be estimated. The purpose was to free the mind from prejudice and limitations and try to follow the process of how an idea emerges and evolves. This experiment resulted in eight meters of drawings of various technique and quality, all documenting different stages of the design process. The CAD plans contain the "final design" and are to be seen as additional material. Please follow the link, to view the whole project. info and red buttons reveal the explanatory schemes and texts.
