Arghavan Latifi Alavije

Arghavan Latifi is a PhD candidate in European Urban Studies (IPP-EU) at Bauhaus University Weimar. She finished her Bachelor in Urban planning at Tehran University of Art and obtained her Master 's Degree in Urban Design from Imam Reza International University. In her Master's research, she conducted studies on the topic of increasing vitality to improve social life in the main streets and returning vulnerable groups to the urban spaces. In her PhD research, she continues working on the topic of social life and her focus is migrants and refugees. 

Returning vulnerable groups to the urban spaces: integration of Afghan migrants and refugees in Iran

Despite more than 40-year history of Afghan immigrant and refugees resettlement in Iran community, this group is still suffering  from social isolation in the host society. This isolation has led to serious issues for both host and migrant societies. Due to the common ethnic, linguistic, cultural, historical and geographical background, there is a high degree of adaptability for this group, which can contribute to the formation of scientific, cultural and economic activities for the benefit of both countries. Therefore, empowerment of Afghan migrants can provide valuable opportunities in social, economic and cultural fields. In the meantime, the identification of the groups, which can influence the development of a culture of trust. This measure can be an effective step in shaping this trend. In this context, the role of Afghan women is becoming more and more evident. Due to their high abilities, this group can have an invaluable role in building trust and reducing conflicts between Afghans and Iranians. Considering the undeniable role of Afghan women in creating adaptability, this research intends to active Afghan women by providing appropriate context for their effective participation at the community Level.
