Newsletter 14.2021

1. Introducing 3G policy and expanding the mask mandate in the university library

In order to limit the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, a 3G policy will be introduced in all public areas of the University Library from November 22nd 2021. Only registered library users who have been vaccinated, have recovered from infection or have been tested negative for Corona will be allowed to enter the library. A negative rapid test result up to 24 hours old or a PCR test result up to 48 hours old will be required. In addition to the necessary documentation, please also carry personal ID (e.g. thoska, federal ID card, passport) and show it to staff upon request. Additionally, wearing a surgical or FFP2 mask is mandatory during your entire stay in the library, including at your study space. As before, the new regulations are based on the university library’s – now updated correspondingly - infection prevention plan as well as the corresponding executive regulation modifying library regulations.
As a result of the city of Weimar’s current general decree coming into effect on November 8th 2021, all exhibitions in the library entrance area had to be cancelled and all exhibits removed.

2. We value your opinion! A short survey by the university library

Since our last invitation, about 170 people have participated in our survey on self-service and expanded opening hours. We are very pleased to receive your feedback this way.
You still have the opportunity to participate in the short survey until November 30th 2021 (duration: approx. one minute) to have your opinion and your suggestions register with us and included in the evaluation, which we’re planning to present in the next newsletter. Thank you very much!

3. »QUEER-LIT-SHELF« moving to second stop

The QUEER-LIT-SHELF, which enjoys great popularity, is moving: on November 22nd 2021, it will be relocated from the university library’s entrance area to the humanities and philosophy collection on floor -1. It will simultaneously be stocked with new books on the topic of »Scientific Foundations of Queer Feminist Literature«, which were purchased especially for this purpose and can be borrowed directly. Initiated by students at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the QUEER-LIT project will take place in the winter semester 2021/22 with the support of the library, the diversity officer and the equal opportunity officer. The students organizing the project can be contacted directly at the following email address: queerlit[at]uni-weimar.de.

4. Free access to historical newspapers

With the Deutsches Zeitungsportal (German Newspaper Portal), the German Digital Library has activated centralized access to digitized historical newspapers from German cultural and knowledge institutions. The free online portal has been launched containing 247 digitized newspapers. It offers a broad range of papers spanning almost 300 years: from the most recent issue of »Il corriere ordinario« from 1671 to the »Badische Neueste Nachrichten« from 1950. The service will be expanded continually.

5. Library Advent calendar in the making

Christmas season is approaching, and this year we’d like to take advantage of our new technology and present a digital Advent calendar. On our info screen by the entrance we will present library items or services especially recommended by library staff every opening day in December, to brighten up the time until Christmas for you as well as introduce you to our collection and services. Preparations are already underway and we’re excited about the various contributions ourselves – and hopefully, so are you. We will, of course, start on December 1st. Feel free to drop by!
