1. Semester start and introduction week in the university library

The library makes an introduction and welcomes all newcomers at Bauhaus-Universität! At the start of the semester we’d like to invite all first-year students to the kickoff event »More than just books – a university library introduction« on October 5th 2023 at 11.15 in the main lecture hall (Audimax). On the Orientation Days we also offer guided library tours. We hope you’ll follow our invitation and are looking forward to meeting the new students in the library!
We ask for your patience towards higher than usual levels of noise during the semester start. The immatriculation ceremony in the Audimax on October 12th from 5 p.m. is especially likely to cause some disturbance in the library. If you’re looking for a quiet place to work, we recommend visiting the Limona building.

2. »Climate protection and sustainability« - We’re joining in!

Bookshelf on »Climate protection and sustainability« in the university library in the winter semester 2023/24

Opposite the service desk you’ll find our new special shelf with selected titles and resources that allow you to gain insight into current developments, challenges and solutions related to eco-friendly building, renewable energies, protecting the environment, environmental history and politics, biodiversity, ecologic protest movements and alternative economic theories. You can view the selection and find links to selected e-books in this list.
Please feel free to borrow any book from the shelf. We also welcome any purchase suggestions.

3. »bauhaus.kreativ« – twin exhibition featuring creativity from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Creativity has been the origin and remains to this day one of the most important resources and strengths of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. But what does that mean in concrete terms? What is created in the workshop, in the studio or at the desk? Which issues and problems move the modern Bauhäusler and how do they address them?
On September 29th 2023 at 11.30 a twin exhibition titled »bauhaus.kreativ« will open that places creative projects and people from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in focus. All interested persons are cordially invited to the vernissage with university president Prof. Peter Benz and vice president for social transformation Dr. Ulrike Kuch.

Anniversary exhibition »15 Years Kreativfonds«
Since 2008, the Kreativfonds has been supporting artistic and creative projects at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, enabling a variety of book projects, films, prototype construction, installations, sculptures, and interactions in public spaces. The exhibition will showcase ten selected completed projects from 2018 to 2022

Exhibition accompanying the release of the podcast »Auf eigenen Wegen«
Also on 29 September 2023, the start-up hub neudeli will publish the first episode of the podcast »Auf eigenen Wegen«. In this interview format, alumni of the Bauhaus University Weimar have their say and report on what it's like to become self-employed and work in the creative industries directly after graduation. The release is accompanied by a poster exhibition with astonishing, enthralling and perhaps also perplexing statements from the first eight episodes of the podcast.

4. Reminder – author reading and talk with Volker Kutscher

The long anticipated the author reading with Volker Kutscher will finally be held on September 29th at 7pm in the main lecture hall (Audimax). Kutscher will be reading from his novel »Der stumme Tod« (2009) which is set in the Berlin cinema scene in spring 1930. A talk with library director Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz after the reading will revolve around the novel’s historic background and the transition from silent to sound film.
Tickets are available in the Weimar tourist information (Markt 10) as well as online (regular price €8, senior citizens €5 Euro, students, schoolkids and Weimar-Pass holders €1). Reduced price tickets for students cannot be bought online, only in the tourist information or directly at the box office on the night of the event.

In a current study, a team of researchers at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg explores the fascinating world of digital media and information literacy. Your perspective is invaluable to science. You’re invited to take about 10 minutes and participate in the survey.
