1. Energy savings in the university library

Of course, the University Library is also participating in efforts to achieve noticeable energy savings. We have already implemented the following measures at the end of July:
The computers in the user area are no longer booted up before the library opens. Users can switch on the individual computers themselves if necessary and please switch them off again after use.
The lights in the open access area and in the foyer will also only be switched on when needed.
These are certainly only small contributions to the serious savings we are aiming for. Further measures will follow.
The library, together with a member of the university's Climate Action Group, organized a sustainability workshop for this year's »Long Night of Academic Writing«, where a number of suggestions were made. We also looked at the floor posters that were created for the summaery as part of a project at the Chair of Building Physics.
If you have any ideas on further potential savings, please let us know (e-mail: info@ub.uni-weimar.de).

2. Self-check-out without password entry

Fast and uncomplicated - that's how self-check-out is supposed to work. In our survey on self-service and opening hours at the end of last year, many participants criticized the complicated password entry for checking out media. As announced, we have now reviewed the necessity of this. As a result, from 01.09.2022 on, we will offer the self-check-out without password entry.
Please remember to report any loss of the thoska immediately to prevent misuse by unauthorized persons.

3. »Fahrradutopien« - a funded Open Access book

Once again, a publication was funded through the Open Access Publication Fund of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: »Fahrradutopien. Medien, Ästhetiken und Aktivismus« by the authors Julia Bee, Ulrike Bergermann, Linda Keck, Sarah Sander, Herbert Schwaab, Markus Stauff and Franzi Wagner.
The publication complements existing approaches to mobility research with media cultural studies perspectives. The contributions combine media studies and research on bicycle activism with a love of cycling.
The publication fees of the book, published by the renowned open access publisher meson press, were financed within the framework of the open access funding of the state of Thuringia. The publication is freely accessible online under a CC-BY-SA license in OPUS Weimar.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's Open Access Publication Fund has made it possible to fund open-access monographs since 2019. The funding guidelines and information on how to apply can be found on our website.

4. German research reports at the TIB Hanover

The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) Hannover has been collecting unpublished German research reports from technology and the natural sciences since 1969. The collection currently comprises more than 300,000 printed and 100,000 electronic reports from research-funding German institutions such as the BMBF or the DFG. Among others, about 30,000 of these are research reports from civil engineering and about 49,000 from environmental technology. The electronic research reports are freely accessible.
The holdings of our University Library include a collection of 201 research reports from the period 1959-1978, which were compiled at our predecessor institution, Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen Weimar.

5. Closing days of the University Library in August and September

The University Library will be closed on Tuesday, 30.08.2022 for the annual inspection of the security systems. The library will also be closed on Saturday, 03.09.2022 for maintenance work on the electricity distribution systems. Tuesday, 20.09.2022 is a public holiday in Thuringia (World Children's Day), so the library will not open on this day either.
Please note that these days the entire building will be closed and therefore the return box in the foyer and the copying/printing technology as well as the recharging terminals will not be available.
The library's electronic services are not affected by the maintenance and closures - so please feel free to use our e-books and other online media and information services.
