1. Essential service period prolonged until January 31st 2021

After the resolutions made by the German chancellor and the states‘ minister-presidents on January 1st 2021 the library’s essential service period will be prolonged until January 31st 2021. As before, the library will open only for pickups and returns from Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm, and can only serve university members. No late fees will be raised during this period.


2. New version of BKI Kostenplaner online

The Weimar university library now offers access to the current version of BKI Kostenplaner 2021 Plus.
BKI-Kostenplaner serves as a tool to help calculate the build cost for new and established buildings as well as outdoor installations according to DIN 276, including over 1,000,000 reference entries and visually supplemented by photos, drawings and building descriptions.
The database is available from campus and from outside the university network by VPN client for university members.


3. »The Chicago Manual of Style Online« - Standard reference for scientific writing

After a very long and successful trial period, the university library has now officially licensed this online reference. »The Chicago Manual of Style Online« serves as a guide to write and publish science papers and answers questions around citing sources as well as style and layout guidelines. It also contains advice on topics like online publishing, writing e-books or citing electronic documents correctly.
The database can be accessed from within the university network. Please refer to our database information system (DBIS) for further information.


4. ORLIS – literature database on municipalities and urban research

The municipal science information system ORLIS is made available on a new platform. The literature database is maintained by Deutsches Institut für Urbanistik according to the requirements of municipal planning and administration and offers both commercialy published and grey literature. The database can be accessed from within the university network. Please refer to our database information system (DBIS) for further information.


5. »utb.e-library« - new common platform for electronic textbooks published by UTB and on scholars-e-library

Starting on January 1st 2021, textbooks published by UTB (utb-studi-e-book) and on scholars-e-library will be available on the common platform utb elibrary. All textbooks are listed in the Online-Katalog (OPAC) and are identical to the respective printed edition. Contents may be downloaded and printed by the chapter. University members are able to access this service from outside the university network by VPN or Shibboleth. Please refer to our website for further information, or visit the new platform directly.


6. Research data organization by the 5S model

The Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management dedicates January to the subject of organizing research data by presenting the 5S principles, which stands for Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize und Sustain. From January 18th to 22nd the 5S Data Week will be held, during which one principle will be explained in detail on the network’s portal. Additionally, on January 27th a coffee lecture will be held, summarizing and presenting all five steps in condensed form. This online event will be moderated by Kevin Lang, contact point for research data management at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and will be held on Zoom. Please register on the event website.
