Projektbeschreibung
DRAWING IN PARALLEL investigates whether companionship can emerge between a human and a machine through the shared act of drawing in outdoor settings. A wearable interface attached to the artist's arm captures drawing gestures in real time and transmits the movement data wirelessly to a robotic arm called Drawing Pal, which responds simultaneously to the same kinaesthetic impulse within the same environment. The project asks what it means to draw together and what would happen to draw »together«. It constructs a kinaesthetic system to explore the entanglement of a human body, a robotic mechanism, and a living environment that can cultivate something that, however tentatively, feels like not being alone.
The work is presented through video documentation of the outdoor sketching experiments, the sketches produced by both the artist and Drawing Pal during the drawing sessions, and the physical models of the wearable interface and Drawing Pal itself. Together, these materials trace the full arc of the research: from the design of the system to its encounter with the world outside.
