Projektbeschreibung

The exhibition on the corner of Schützengasse and Brauhausgasse presents work developed in a seminar exploring how design can emerge from a careful and critical engagement with the existing built environment. Centered on a site in the Thuringian Forest, Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig, the projects use the area as a real-world laboratory for investigating questions of reuse, adaptation, and transformation.

Through drawings, spatial analyses, and definitions of a reuse culture, the exhibited works examine how spatial, social, and heritage values shape the built environment and how they can inform future change. Developed within the broader framework of UmNutzungskultur (cultures of use and reuse), the projects follow the interconnected processes of collecting, testing, and articulating (Ersammeln – Erproben – Erfassen), revealing how observation, analysis, and design speculation can inform one another.

The seminar is supported by Lilla Kammermann and Frederick Kubin, master’s students in urban planning and architecture, who are part of the »Urbane Liga« (a nationwide network of the Ministry of Construction for urban developers under the age of 27) and are conducting joint research with this network focusing on »reuse culture.«
