Projektbeschreibung

RoboCut – Robotic Cutting for Multi‑Material Assemblage and Expanded Expression explores how industrial robots can become tools for experimental design, circular fabrication, and spatial prototyping. In the seminar, students repurpose found materials through digital and physical methods, developing custom connection elements and assemblies that structurally link these pieces together.

Working with 3D scanning, parametric modelling, and defined CAD–CAM workflows, participants design and robotically cut geometrically intricate foam positives that function as patterns for lost foam casting. These foam forms are then cast in aluminium to produce custom metal connectors that join found materials into new structural configurations. The Bauhaus Design Lab D-LAB provides access to an industrial robot setup, enabling full-scale 1:1 prototypes that test how diverse material streams can be integrated into coherent architectural and product design systems.

The exhibited works present these prototypes as materialized research, revealing not only technical workflows but also questions of adaptive reuse, digital craft, and the changing relationship between human designer, machine agency, and construction culture, while also working with new tools and processes and the tolerances and constraints they introduce.
