How does an AI system understand images and text and how do we navigate systems shaped by assumptions, biases, and inherited prejudices?
This exhibition presents works developed in a course exploring generative AI as both a creative tool and a critical object of study. Through programming and experimentation, participants examine how image-generating systems operate beyond their apparent “black box” nature.
All generative image models rely on translation between language and images, a space where visual and linguistic meaning intersect. While human vision is contextual, embodied, and culturally shaped, machine vision reduces images to statistical relationships learned from vast datasets.
The works shown here engage this gap. They explore how meaning is produced, altered, or lost when filtered through generative systems, and how creative practitioners can work with AI critically—using it not as an authority, but as a material to question, probe, and reshape.
