Projektbeschreibung
Clicking sounds of RFID-controlled door locks; footsteps echoing through hallways and stairwells; wastewater rushing intermittently through drainpipes; airflows being drawn in, guided through a labyrinth of shafts, and expelled back into the environment. Architectural infrastructures, once activated, unfold specific rhythms along with physical phenomena such as sounds, vibrations, pulses of light, or movement.
In the seminar »Sensing the Campus«, we approached the university’s architectural infrastructure as a living organism. We investigated ways of sensing its inner processes, translating subtle physical phenomena »behind the facade« into digital data, and transforming them into new experiences. The result is a distributed system of »sensor nodes« installed across the campus, monitoring often overlooked processes and transmitting their data to a speculative data center.
The data center and its physical outputs can be experienced at Bauhausstraße 15 (basement). A digital representation is accessible via 141.54.79.5 (eduroam only).
