Projektbeschreibung
What is silence?
Objectively speaking, silence is defined an absence of sound. But silence, and the expressions associated with it could stir a myriad of emotions & feelings for people based upon their experiences & cultural realities. Silence could be a virtue that allows one to listen to the unsaid. On the contrary, silence can be a tool used by the powerful to exercise control over the weak.
The project aims to represent the associations & emotions drawn from the concept of 'silence' for the people of Kashmir. The result is an interactive light installation that responds to the voices around it; the words 'Czoape kaerzi," meaning 'Stay Silent' in Kashmiri carved out of the interface, go dark in the absence of sound reinforcing the narrative that 'silence is safety.'
