Galeria Urban Forms

Michał Bieżyński / Lodz, Poland

Between 1920 and 1930 the mural art movement developed in Mexico which reached out to a worldwide interest for its distinguishing characteristic of combining the architectural elements with painting in order to develop an unique urban space, which involved the visual arts and the architectural structures together. Later on the mural art movement went down and the architectural spaces that were once used as a platform for artists were transformed into a method of brand advertising. GALERIA URBAN FORMS has been developing for five years as a public event that brings together the big names of the graffiti scene. It became one of the most important mural art festivals worldwide and updated the old fashion mural art movement by transforming the walls of Łodz, Poland. Michał Bieżyǹski, one of the curating heads and co-founder of this initiative, will talk about the process and development of this event and how the big scale paintings change the atmosphere of the city into an urban gallery space.
