The Globewing

The Globewing is a two-handed input device consisting of two globefish sensors, each providing six degrees of freedom.

The dominant hand controls virtual object manipulation. The non-dominant hand controls the camera view.

A new interaction metaphor allows for easy navigation and manipulation by adapting to different situations with refined input mappings. By just grabbing one of both controllers, all input is directly transmitted to the currently manipulated object, while simultaneous input of both hands results in relative motion control. The underlying paradigm for this interaction concept is human hand eye coordination. It constrains the virtual manipulation handle and the camera view to maintain their orientation towards each other, while moving in space.
