Industrial wastewater treatment

In the upcoming winter semester, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (Germany) starts with two courses, that were translated in the scope of the “Professional.Bauhaus” project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and by the competition "Aufstieg durch Bildung. Each course consists of 8 ECTS-CP, both in total 16 credit points.


Start of the course is middle of October. The distance learning phase will last until mid-March. During this time new study material will be sent by mail and supplied online in a 14-days rhythm. The processing time is 10 to 20 hours per week, depending on the person.

In April, a one-week long attendence phase in will take place in Weimar/Germany. This includes lectures, seminars, study visit and the professional examination. With the end of the presence phase, students receive their certificate from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar confirming their successful participation.

The course is part of the emerging master program on Environmental engineering (Fernstudium Umweltingenieurwesen) as well as part of the existing master programme Water and the Environment (Wasser und Umwelt) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

The distance learning course is approved by Federal Ministry of Education and Research and enables for an application for financial support by the Bildungsprämie (www.bildungspraemie.info).

The fee for a single course (8 ECTS-CP) is 591.80€. The fee for the both courses on industrial wastewater treatment (total 16 ECTS-CP) is 941.80 euros. Registration is possible through the Secretariat of Water and the Environment (info(AT)bauing.uni-weimar.de) or via the registration form.

The course includes two specialised books (see extracts below) in print and pdf, support and mentoring by University staff, learning plattform login and attendence at the lectures at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Abstract:

Legal Basis, Process Engineering, Production-integrated Environmental Protection

The treatment of wastewater from industrial production and manufacturing processes are subjected to fulfill specific legal requirements. Origin and composition of these effluents generally require pretreatment before discharged into a public wastewater treatment plant or rather direct discharging requires the use of special cleaning procedures. This book provides an overview of possible techniques of industrial wastewater treatment process. Based on the legal requirements important design principles are taught for the integration of environmental protection measures in industrial processes. The following sections describe in more detail the various treatment methods.

The series »Water and the Environment« contains selected content from the areas of hydraulics and hydraulic engineering, waste management and sanitary engineering with the subregions wastewater treatment and water supply.
