Extension of a hydro-mechanical 2D Finite element code with thermal effects

Tasks

  • A existing efficient 2D FE hydro-mechanical code (MATLAB) models the cross section of a gravity dam (HM system).
  • Incorporate thermal effects into the code towards a thermal-hydro-mechanical coupled system (THM system)
  • Compare results of HM and THM system, parameter/sensitivity study
  • Part of research project: Polymorphic uncertainty

Domain Decomposition approach for Karhunden-Loeve-expansion of Random Fields

Tasks

  • Implementation and parameter study of a domain decomposition algorithm for the generation of random fields using Karhunen-Loeve expansion
  • A one dimensional version is available and should be expanded to 2D and 3D
  • Parametric study of the accuracy for different domain decompositions and truncations
  • Comparision to global Karhunen-Loeve expansion (already implemented)
  • Part of research project: Polymorphic uncertainty
