Borders erosion
The former harbor area to the south of the historic center of Stralsund is disconnected from it, as is the surrounding residential areas and the sea. I see the main goal of my project as blurring the boundaries between the port and the city and the water.

Our site should be a link between the touristic postcard part of Stralsund and the modern port area, showing an alternative model of interaction with the sea. The sea is not a postcard backdrop or a transportation artery, but a unique resource for new ideas for science. The Sea Research Campus complements the existing institute located on Dänholm and offers new opportunities for research into marine energy, marine biotopes, and alternative materials.  In addition to laboratories, it offers space for student start-ups and innovative algae productions.

The long coastline also provides a model of coexistence with the sea.
I have distinguished 8 main scenarios of interaction with water: re-naturalization, domestication, cooperation, barrier, scenography, terraforming, intervention and surrender to water (permission to be). In distributing these scenarios along the edge, I was guided by the function, the level of flooding, and the current state of the edge. The main measure against flooding is the blue dunes - islands along the line of the old mole. In addition to protection from surge flooding, they will serve as a function of water purification and restoration of biodiversity, a kind of laboratory for the Institute of Oceanography and an additional tourist attractor.

The entire site is conventionally divided into three levels-touching with the water below the existing canteen, transit and terrace fully protected from flooding. Green skeleton and a network of retention channels provide porosity and controlled flooding during heavy rains and tides.
