Field Trip "la Biennale di Venezia"

„We believe that everyone has the right to benefit from architecture. The role of architecture is to give shelter to our bodies, but also to lift our spirits. A beautiful wall forming a street edge gives pleasure to the passer-by, even if they never go inside.“

Freespace – The theme and the outline of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition (2018) in Venice, announced by the directors Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara (Grafton Architects) reveals the intention, to strengthen the updated Biennale focus, which was initiated in 2016 by Alejandro Aravena under the headline of Reporting from the Front. But whereas Aravena offered a critical overview on the worldwide evolution of architecture, the 2018 Biennale will celebrate generosity and thoughtfulness as well as the desire to engage from the perspective of the public, private and urban space – of landscape and territory. The seminar and field trip will analyse the theoretical and practical approaches of the 2018 Biennale contributions and prepare a critical review by collecting the available sources and evaluating the actual exhibition on-site.
