Dedicated to practice-based knowledge-exchange in an academic context, the XI. Model Project Forum presented an array of approaches. Reflecting challenges and solutions of today's urbanist practice, students present the various spatial scales and creative methods they dealt with .
11th International Model Project Forum
As part of the unique academic profile in the interdisciplinary master programme ‘European Urban Studies’ international experts from the institute’s Model Project Partners present and discuss their current projects in research, practice and administration with the ‘young professionals’, the postgraduate students of the programme.
The city as a steadily changing realm is depending from a multitude of factors and stakeholders that urbanists, planners, developers, politicians and last but not least citizens have to deal with. Factors like the demand and intention to create a sustainable environment interfere with society’s current organisation of space, while the ambition to sustain and regenerate urban space may for instance collide with the situation of diminishing population. Interests and actors are manifold as well as the ideas that are finally communicated as a strategy and more concrete as a spatial or architectural design proposal, often linked to a certain image, dedicated to communicate a concept and narrative ‘behind’ the image.
Die Erscheinungsformen und die Imagebildung städtischer Räume unterliegen einem ständigem Wandel und hängen von einer Vielzahl von Faktoren und Akteuren ab. Urbanisten, Architekten, Planer, Developer, Geografen, Politiker und nicht zuletzt Bürger setzen sich sowohl als Entwerfer wie auch als direkt Betroffene damit auseinander. Einflussfaktoren wie sie z.B. das Bedürfnis und der Anspruch an eine nachhaltig gestaltete Umwelt darstellen, interferieren mit bestehenden gesellschaftlichen Vorstellungen räumlicher Organisation, während das Bestreben, städtischen Raum neu zu gestalten und aufzuwerten, beispielsweise mit der Situation einer schrumpfender Bevölkerung kollabieren kann.
Die Interessen und Akteure sind vielfältig sowie auch die Ideen, die letztendlich als eine Strategie im konkreten räumlichen oder architektonischen Entwurf entwickelt und kommuniziert werden. Sie sollen ein bestimmtes Image implizieren, und gleichzeitig ein Konzept und ein Narrativ im Bild transportieren.
Welche Erwartungen stehen hinter Konzepten, die beispielsweise für ein Quartier entwickelt werden und in welchen Wechselbeziehungen stehen sie zu einem übergeordneten, gesamtstädtischen Plan um letztendlich zu einem innovativeren Image der Stadt beizutragen? Wie planen Städte im unausgewogenen Wettbewerb zwischen Schrumpfung und Dichte urbanen Raum zu entwickeln und zu qualifizieren, und ihn zu einem reformulierten Stadtimage zu führen? Und wie steht es um die zeitliche Beständigkeit eines solchen Images?
Dem praxisbasierten Wissensaustausch im akademischen Kontext gewidmet, präsentierte das XI. Modellprojekte Forum ‚Europäische Urbanistik’ Ansätze zum kreativen Umgang mit städtischem Raum. Im Forum wurden in den Vorträgen vom „Imageneering“ von Eventräumen und Orten des Konsums bis zur Neuordnung städtischen Raumes unter sozialen Belangen eine Reihe von Korrektiven und Neuschöpfungen von Stadtbildern in unterschiedlichen Maßstäben dargestellt und diskutiert.
Als Teil eines einzigartigen akademischen Profils präsentierten und diskutierten internationale Experten der Modellprojektpartner Europäische Urbanistik mit den postgraduale Studenten im Masterprogramm „Europäische Urbanistik“ Projekte aus Forschung, Praxis und Verwaltung. Die englischsprachige Tagung am Institut für Europäische Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar widmete sich im internationalen Wissenstransfer den unterschiedlichen Herausforderungen aktuellerurbanistischer Praxis.
