This intensive, four week seminar will engage a practical and creative pairing of large format camera operation, silver gelatin and primary wet-plate collodion processes. In this hands-on, concept driven workshop - students will engage traditional and anachronistic analog technologies to develop photographic projects that consider the cultural effect of politics and economy. Using tripod mounted, large format cameras (4x5) in field and studio settings, students will be introduced to sheet film negatives and primary wet plate collodion positives (ferrotype and ambrotype). Camera bodies, lenses and most materials will be provided. Students are expected to contribute additional materials and supplies (i.e black and white sheet film, tripods, etc.) 6 credits. Limited to 8 students.
Stephan Jacobs is the professor for photography at Emmanuel College, photographic artist based in Boston (USA) and a fullbright specialist in Fine Art.
