The
New Weimarhalle
is located in the former garden of the Bertuch House, directly
behind the City Museum. The sturdy new building of the architects
Gerkan, Marg & Partners preserves, with its gray travertine
and its facade divided into wooden slats and high, narrow window
bands, the dimensions of its predecessor
from the 1920s, demolished in 1997.
On
the inside, wooden sliding panels allow the great hall (seating
1200 people) to be closed for increased acoustic quality or
opened for a view onto the park.
Important
events of the Bauhaus University, such as matriculations and
investitures, as well as large scholarly congresses, take place
here.
