Main Building

From 1904 to 1911, the University‘s Main Building was constructed according to plans created by Henry van de Velde. It is one of the most significant art school buildings of the turn of the century and was the place where, in 1919, the Bauhaus was founded. It belongs to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.

In 1999 the building was renovated under the directorship of the architect Thomas van den Valentyn, whereby its original form was to a large extent restored.

Today it is used by the Faculty of Architecture with ist Dean‘s Office, the Faculty of Design, and the Rector‘s Office.
