Ordinances of Study for the Post-Graduate Programme

"Public Art and New Artistic Strategies"

with the Degree "Master of Fine Arts

In accordance with § 5 Paragraph 1 in connection with § 79 Paragraph 2 Sentence 1 Number 11, § 83 Paragraph 2 Number 6 and § 85 of the Thuringian University Regulations in the June 9, 1999 version (GVBI. S. 331), most recently modified via Article 2 of the legislation from December 19, 2000 (GVBI. S. 416),on the basis of the consent of the Thuringian Ministry for Science, Research and Art decreed on . . . , the Bauhaus-University Weimar confers the following officially approved Examination Regulations for the Post-Graduate course of Study "Public Art and New Artistic Strategies"; the Faculty Council agreed to the Ordinances of Study in its meeting on June 6, 2001 and the Senate of the Bauhaus-University Weimar has declared its consensual awareness of the Ordinances of Study in its meeting on July 4, 2001.

§ 1 Area of Applicability ^

(1) These Ordinances of Study regulate the goal, content and construction of the Post-Graduate Programme "Public Art and New Artistic Strategies".

(2) This Programme is oriented toward study abroad. German and English are the required languages.

 
§ 2 Admission Requirements ^

(1) The first requirement for admission to the Programme is a professionally qualifying diploma from an Art and Design University with either a regular term of study that is no less than 8 semesters or a passing examination recognized as an equal conclusion of studies.

(2) An additional requirement for admission is the passing of aptitude assessment. Along with the submission of the documentation of the Applicant's own artistic works, an oral aptitude examination will be carried out.
The criteria under assessment are creativity, wealth of ideas, development and realization of complex artistic solutions for public spaces and the capability of the Applicant's presentation to clearly express the Applicant's own artistic ideas.
The assessment is either "passed" or "not passed"

(3) The testing committee is comprised of two examiners, from whom at least one is a professor.

 
§ 3 Duration of Study ^

The regular length of study is four semesters. This includes one semester for the Master's Examination. The Programme is modularly structured and has an educational content of 85 SWS, which corresponds to a total of 121 credits.

 
§ 4 Goal and Content of the Programme ^

(1) The "Public Art and New Artistic Strategies" Programme serves to the deepening of the capability of artistic expression with special attention paid to the exchange between artwork and public spaces. The personal artistic development of the students in the studio is central. In addition, the interdisciplinary mediation appropriate to the capabilities and methods of the students shall impart complex competencies that make possible theoretically and artistically appropriate interventions through concept, strategy and implementation.

(2) For the German students, a portion of the study lasting at least one semester shall be made in a foreign country, which serves to the exceptional development of international character. The students shall acquire additional competence in the international artistic discourse with regard to intercultural connections.

(3) Through the below listed structure of studies, the following main areas of the personal artistic position will be worked on: Temporary interventions, actions and performances in the public space; mediation of artistic content through immaterial forms, such as Internet or radio and forms of the public consciousness, as well as the integration of fine arts with architecture.

  • Workshop Courses/Workshops/Technical Courses
  • Graduate Seminars
  • Lectures
  • Excursions

(3.1) Studio Project
The Studio Project is the central form of study. The students will realize one theme from the central content of the Programme. Individual artistic plans for working can be dealt with as a studio project after being agreed to by a counselor.

(3.2) Lecture/Excursion/Workshop/Workshop Course/Technical Course
Lectures, Excursions, Workshops, Workshop Courses and Technical Courses expand the offerings of the Programme.

(3.3) Graduate Seminar
In the Graduate Seminar, the graduate students will study contemporary artworks and theory and history from art and culture. The students' own artistic works are to be integrated and compared with the work of contemporary artists.

 
§ 5 Study and Examination Requirements ^

(1) The required achievements for a regulatory course of studies are provided as Study and Examination Requirements.

The following achievements are to be certified:

  • 3 Studio Projects
  • 3 Graduate Seminars
  • 5 Excursion Days
  • Master's Work
  • Presentation

The credits granted through these achievements are documented in the attachment.

(2) Study requirements are recognized as Pre-Examination Requirements for the Master's Examination. No later than the beginning of the course, the teachers will make public the results that they expect from the students. A certificate of study will document the successful completion of the requirement.

 
§ 6 Clause of Non-Discrimination ^

Status and functional descriptions via this regulation are equivalent for the feminine and the masculine forms.

 
§ 7 Enactment of Validation ^

These Ordinances of Study will be enacted on the first day of the month following the month of its publication in the official gazette of the Thuringian Ministry of Culture and the Thuringian Ministry for Science, Research and Art.
