part of the faculty of civil engineering at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The Institute integrates the chairs of Computational Mechanics (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rabczuk) and of Structural Analysis and Component Strength (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Könke). As well as the junior professorship in Stochastics and Optimization (Jun.-Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Lahmer).
Current research activities are focused on the development of new efficient and robust simulation tools to predict the structural response of engineering structures under various loading conditions as well as on the development of experimental methods for structural dynamics, such as methods for system identification problems. About 30 members of scientific and administrative staff are currently working on a number of research projects, which are predominantly financed by third party funding partners, such as the German Research Foundation (DFG), European Union (EU) and others form the industry.
The ISM participates in teaching of structural mechanics, structural statics and dynamics, mechanics of materials, advanced numerical simulation methods with applications in reliability theory and structural topology optimization for all students in different programs of study offered by the faculty of civil engineering.
ISM is also a partner for special engineering tasks, offering a broad experience and specific knowledge in numerical simulations for static and dynamic problems, taking into account all different aspects of geometrical and physical nonlinear effects, investigation of dynamic structural behavior of existing structures due to general dynamic loading and control, numerical simulation of damage processes and life-time prediction for structural components up to whole spatial structures for civil and mechanical engineering problems.
