Platz der Demokratie

In the heart of the city (next to the steed carrying Grand Duke Carl August), one has a wonderful view of the Residence Castle (and tower) which is now home to the Weimar Art Collections and the Foundation of Weimar Classics. The Duchess Anna Amalia Library complex surrounding the square recently underwent extensive renovation and expansion, for which new space for library stacks was built beneath the square. The main building of the College of Music Franz Liszt is situated at the south end of the square.
