Faculty of Architecture

The faculty, known as the School of Architecture, is part of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Together with the faculties of Art and Design, Civil Engineering and Media, it provides a platform for inter-disciplinary discourse on topics relating to design and construction. "Weimar" and "Bauhaus" are milestones in the history of modern architecture and also define the historical anchor points of contemporary architectural teaching.

This complex area of study is essentially design oriented and focuses on the current problems of town planning, building design, building construction and space planning with inter-disciplinary concepts. The aim of the course is to create architects who are conceptual thinkers, knowledgeable designers and team players who can manage the complex processes involved in planning and construction.

The faculty maintains an active student exchange program with more than 30 international partner institutes within the framework of European higher education and beyond. This is promoted in part by the recent conversion to the multi-level Bachelors and Masters study model and by the availability of an English language study programme (IIAS – International Integrated Architectural Studies, Advanced Architectural Design), as well as post-graduate Masters degree courses (European Urban Studies, MediaArchitecture), which include new fields of research and employment.

Numerous symposia and conferences such as the renowned International Bauhaus Colloquium are held by the faculty to debate current architectural topics.
