German courses during the semester

You are interested in improving your German language skills during your stay in Weimar? Then this is the right page for you.

During the semester, the Language Centre offers German courses

• with 4 hours per week,
• for 12 weeks, and
• on different levels.

They aim at providing the necessary language skills for studying and everyday life. All courses end with a written exam in which your listening, reading, and writing skills will be assessed.

ECTS-Credit Points

Regular participation and a successful exam at the end of the course are the prerequisites for 3 ECTS-Credit Points.

Course Fees

The course fee is € 30 for students, € 45 for staff members, and € 60 for guests.

Requirements

In order to participate, you need to have at least a basic command of German (A 1) which will be assessed in a placement test at the beginning of the semester. For test dates, please click here.

Please note that during the semester there are no courses for absolute beginners. If you are an absolute beginner, please attend one of our intensive courses in March or September before the beginning of the semester.

It is also important to know that you have to participate in a placement test at the beginning of every semester - even if you attended a course during the previous semester. The reason is that we have new students every semester which makes it necessary to form new groups.

Registration

By participating in one of the placement tests at the beginning of the semester, you register automatically for a German course during the semester. The results of the placement tests are published at the beginning of the period during which the course fees have to be paid. To sign up for the course you have been placed in, it is necessary to come to the Language Centre's offices during this period. This also goes for students who do not need to pay the fee (e.g. students with a DAAD grant or exchange students from particular universities).

Class Times

The timetable for the groups in which participants have been placed focusses on the following days and times:

• Monday, 9.15 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. OR
• Wednesday, 1.30 - 4.45 p.m. OR
• Friday, 9.15 a.m. - 12.30 p.m.
