The International Bauhaus Network of Generations is a worldwide, interdisciplinary, lifelong network of all the current and former members, partners and supporters of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. An integral part of this network is the continually expanding group of alumni, now totalling 4,300 and spanning more than 70 countries around the world.
The goal is to encourage Bauhaus students, alumni, professors and employees in all faculties and areas at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and beyond in countries throughout the world to share their opinions and exchange expertise. In working toward this goal, the International Bauhaus Network of Generations bridges the gap between art and technology, theory and practice, and science and industry. At the same time, it forms the basis for interdisciplinary projects and collaboration with lasting, visible benefits for research, teaching and knowledge transfer. The alumni network of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is open to all former students, professors and employees of the university free of charge. Media Design alumnus | contemporary poet, slam poet | Berlin
“I enjoy going about my artistic work in the spirit of the early Bauhäusler. I too try to interlink technique, artistry and the business aspect. From the very beginning, the Bauhäusler went out into the world to construct buildings, teach the Bauhaus philosophy and present their works. I’m happy to be part of that tradition.”

Katja Wittig
designer (Dipl.)
Visual Communication alumna | artistic director /graphic artist for “ZIMT” | Paris
“The Bauhaus culture does indeed have a very, very good reputation, especially outside of Germany. That obviously makes me proud to be a small part of that culture. And I truly believe that the practice-oriented education I received in Weimar significantly influenced how I approach professional projects today. I remember studying abroad in Nice, where all the courses were very theoretical, and yearning for the teaching methods of the Bauhaus-Uni. I would even say that my way of thinking and working is very “Bauhaus-like”. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and I were simply a good match – also in terms of my personal and professional goals. And in some way, it’s still a part of me, and has shaped me into who I am today. And I’m always thrilled to get mail from back home – thanks to the alumni newsletter!”

Panagiotis Loukopoulos

Civil Engineering alumnus | freelancer | Athens
“It’s an honour being a part of the Bauhaus family. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has a great reputation – not only in Germany, but internationally as well. That’s why I’m very proud to tell people here in Greece that I studied in Weimar at the Bauhaus-Universität. The Bauhaus family is and will always be my second family!”

Marcus Urban
architect (Dipl.-Ing.)
Architecture alumnus | Managing director of “marcus urban souldesign” | Hamburg
“No matter where I go in the world, when I tell people where I studied, I always get beaming, admiring expressions… I think I’m influenced by the Bauhaus ideas, building bridges between the disciplines – technology and art – or becoming better acquainted with myself before I try designing something for someone else. This is reflected in my present work as coach, consultant and designer. When I make an appearance – on television or in the press – I embody much of what I first learned at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar – to always strive to be authentic, courageous and curious and let the creativity flow.”

Prof. Kuno Prey
professor of Product Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 1993 to 2002 | Founded the Faculty of Design and Art at the University of Bozen/Bolzano in 2002 | Bozen/Bolzano
“It was a unique opportunity for me to collaborate with a wide variety of colleagues in setting up the Faculty of Art and Design, the project initiated by Lucius Burckhard, and in so doing, shape Weimar’s model of study. A model, which I’ve successfully implemented and continued to develop in the Italian university system here in Bozen... It’s a great honour to be a part of the Bauhaus family and I always try to mindfully carry the spirit of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar into the world.”

Annett Zobel
computer scientist (Dipl.)
Computer Science alumna | Managing director of “metaVentis GmbH” | Weimar
“I equate my alma mater with a wonderful past – the home where I studied and began my career, and especially the professors and employees who continued to support me well into my professional life. Being part of the Bauhaus family means being part of an inspirational network of innovation and education of those who will come after us.”

Ramon Grendene
designer (Dipl.)
Visual Communication alumnus | Managing director of “YouAreWatchingUs” | Egg (Zürich)
“The Bauhaus taught me lessons for life, to follow one’s instincts, to devote oneself wholeheartedly – a unique platform, a workshop for the mind and for self-development... For me, being part of the Bauhaus family means cultivating lifelong friendships, seeing each other again and exchanging ideas. But it also means internalising new perspectives in one’s creative process and allowing one’s thoughts free reign to develop. The Bauhaus has always been extraordinary, and, in my opinion, ought to be preserved both within and without.”

Dr. Alvin Masarira
engineer (Dipl.)
Civil Engineering alumnus | Senior Structural Engineer for “Anglo American” | Johannesburg
“As a lecturer at the University of Cape Town and Senior Engineer for Anglo American plc., I’ve stayed in close contact professionally with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. For me, it’s a connection to one of the best universities and one of most famous cities in Germany.”

Philipp Wiegandt
designer (Dipl.)
Art and Design alumnus | Managing director of “Goldwiege” | Weimar
“Weimar as a school is a formative place which has made its mark all over the world. Everywhere you go, you meet new Bauhäusler. And sometimes, they return with their children to Weimar from the big, wide world. You see each other again... it’s simply a wonderful memory of an exciting and formative time.”

Prof. Dr. Ramon Sotelo
honorary professor of Real Estate Investment Products at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar | Berlin
“I equate the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar with tradition and modernity, the continuous reinvention of oneself, a tradition of simplicity despite the magnitude of its tradition. Being part of the Bauhaus family means respecting the great minds of the past, yet counting yourself among them nonetheless.”

Daniela Kloth
Master of Arts
Media Management alumna | Social media manager of “azionare GmbH” | Bautzen
“I always loved studying at the Bauhaus-Universität. The friendly rapport, the mutual help and exchange of ideas always meant a lot to me. The feeling of belonging and working together in a friendly atmosphere, but also having fun together after a hard day – that’s what it’s like to study in Weimar.”

Ralf Zabel
architect (Dipl.-Ing.)
Architecture alumnus | Managing director of “ZABEL & PARTNER architects and planners” | Seoul
“My architectural work brought me to Korea. I spend much of my time both geographically and culturally in faraway countries. That’s why I’m always surprised at how well I still know and love Bauhaus and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.”

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Wilhelm Alfen
Chair of Construction Economics at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since 2001 | Weimar
“Being part of the Bauhaus family means enjoying worldwide recognition and open doors, but also high expectations in the academic community and far beyond.”
